IHS Global Energy Information Review

WELLS & LOGS U.S. CONTINUED IHS Lat/Longs Accuracy Project As part of our on-going effort to improve the quality of the IHS lat/longs, we have recently added state regulatory agency lat/ longs to over 1.4 million historical wells across 15 states. This is an important part of our quality control process where we compare the state regulatory locations to our IHS lat/longs. Wells that fail this audit are researched to determine where the error might reside. We have completed this audit in in over 20 states in the last three years and are continuing to refine our quality process. Texas Survey Name Standardization In 2012, we started a project to standardize the Survey Names in Texas Well Data. We completed our analysis and research in mid-2013 and thereafter began implementing the changes. We stated with 4,236 unique survey names and were able to standardize those into 308 names. This represents a 93% reduction in survey names, a benefit that will help provide customers with improved efficiency in querying and mapping workflows. Given the large number of wells impacted by this change, we will implementing the name changes through 2014 with an anticipated completion date of Spring 2015. Final Well Status for Plugged Wells We added new codes in late 2012 to provide more granularity to wells in their early stages with new final status such as: Well Permit, Well Start and At Total Depth. In late 2013, we changed our methodology on final status for plugged and abandoned producing wells. Over 690,000 wells were updated with this new final status which denotes that the well has been plugged and abandoned while still retaining the original producing fluid type. In addition to the Final Status, we change the map symbol to reflect the new status as well. This enhancement will save our users considerable time when building projects and screening for opportunities in P&A wells. Final Status Final Status after change Old Code New Code Oil Producer Abandoned Oil Producer OIL ABD-OW Gas Producer Abandoned Gas Producer GAS ABD-GW Oil & Gas Producer Abandoned Oil & Gas Producer O&G ABDOGW Gas-Coalbed Methane Producer Abandoned Gas Coalbed Producer GAS-CB ABD-CB In 2014, we will make similar changes to Service and Injection well statuses. FracFocus Supplemental Information IHS has been tracking well treatment details for several decades and have over 1.1 million wells alone with frac details. More and more completion reports are lacking full details on well treatments. To ensure we are providing comprehensive information, we started a project in late 2013 to capture additional frac details from FracFocus reports. Each month we review new wells added to the FracFocus database and manually enter data attributes related to number of stages, proppant type and amount, fluid volumes and additives. As time permits, we are entering those details from the historical 52,000 reports to our Well Completions database. 122
