85 INTERNATIONAL IHS | www.ihs.com E&P SURVEY DATABASE The Geophysical Survey database contains data on over 55,500 worldwide seismic, gravity and magnetic surveys. The database is used by petroleum engineers, geologists, and geoscientists who can access acquisition details such as survey dates, concession, operator, company, vessel, and amount of 2D or 3D data. Since geophysical activity is a precursor to exploratory and development drilling, the Survey Database along with the Survey Navigation Layer (which displays 2D lines and 3D polygons) is an important tool the explorationist can use during the decision-making process. While using EDIN or EDIN Desktop, the explorationist can quickly determine: »»Where geophysical activity has occurred »» Identify areas possibly underexplored »» Identify underperforming operators for potential farm-in opportunities »»Make enquiries for licensing purposes if 2D or 3D exists »» Determine crew efficiency »» Validation of field reserves through 3D coverage »» Vessel availability »» Reprocess data instead of acquiring new »» Seismic availability over licensing rounds Recent Enhancements · Several projects and reviews were undertaken in 2013, including: »»A major 800,000 km Canadian project, covering over 600 surveys began early 2013. The raw data was first QC’d then matched with corresponding contracts and fields. As of end 2013, over 170 surveys were added to the database for the Mackenzie Delta »»The Quality Goal to 100% populate party days for surveys with exact start and stop dates was achieved ahead of schedule in mid-2014. This goal was important because, by combining party days along with line and square kilometers with contractor, crew or vessel would provide powerful analytics data which can determine the companies that operate at maximum efficiency. »»A Brazil project added 57 surveys to the database representing 11,900 km and 69,000 sq km.
