General Overview

Connect has been designed to provide energy, macroeconomic, and industry professionals with seamless, integrated access to subscription research through a single user interface.

Using the Connect interface, you can search for content across several domains—Chemical, Country Risk, Economics, and Energy—to review reports and research from industry leading publications and analysis from IHS Experts. Sophisticated tools allow you to customize pertinent information and project future trends and prices. Maps, charts, and tables offer unique visualization of concepts, demographics, data series, ratings, and more.

From every page in IHS Connect, you have access to IHS Connect Customer Care, Search IHS Connect, help features, settings, profile and password updates, a Log Out option, and the Menu Bar.

Settings and Help features

Click the Connect logo to navigate to the Home page.

Consult Help at the top of every page in Connect to find the IHS Connect User Guide in Online help format and in PDF format that you can download and / or print. Also available on this page are links to the Expert Directory, Glossary & Methodology documents, opportunities to Register for Training, descriptions and demos under Take a Tour, opportunities to download Connect to mobile apps from the App Store and Google Play, and a contact list for Customer Care.

When you click the Gear icon , settings for Content View and Relevancy are displayed.

Update billing code information, your profile, or password by clicking your name to display the menu with links to these features. You can also Log Out from this menu.

Searching in IHS Connect

The Search IHS Connect field and magnifying symbol appears on every page in Connect.

Start a search by entering a keyword or phrase in the Search box, or click the magnify symbol to open the Search page and view recent results to seamlessly discover all IHS information and insight available on Connect.

The Search page opens with results for your search criteria or recent results.

Search IHS Connect provides powerful, keyword-based access to all documents and data series available in Connect. You can filter search Sectors by All, Chemical, Country Risk, Economics, and Energy as well as apply filters for Geography, Content Type & Dataset, Publication Frequency, Document Format, Report Author. Navigating through content in IHS Connect

The Menu bar displays tabs for Home and megamenus for Chemical, Economics, Energy, Risk, and Energyview. In addition, the Geography tab gives you access to country profiles, Dashboard takes you to your customized dashboard page. Map opens the visual geography tool. The My Connect page displays tabs for My Saved—taking you to your saved documents, series, charts, queries, and Report Builder—My Regions, My Locations, My Series Uploads, Service Alerts, and Email Settings.

• IHS Connect opens on the Home page where you can view many global, regional and organizational research articles, search for specific information, save research for later reading, and review current global news.
  
  
• The Chemical, Economics, Energy, Risk, and EnergyView tabs open megamenus for these domains. Within the megamenus are Research, Data, and Tools grouped by sector and containing links to content pages and tools related to the chosen sector. All information relevant to the domain and sector is available from the megamenu.
  
  Note: The tabs displayed on the Menu Bar correspond to your subscription. Therefore, you may not see all of the domain tabs on the Menu Bar shown in this example. In addition, grayed out items within the megamenus may not be available to you, depending upon your subscription and /or the availability of the content.
• The Geography tab opens Country Profile where you can view content pages for Country Risk, Economics, Energy, and Transactions for your selected country.
  
• Dashboard opens your customized dashboards. You can select a dashboard you previously saved or create a new dashboard. For more information about creating dashboards, see Creating and saving dashboards and Customizing and identifying tools on the Dashboard.
• Map takes you to a global map, which visualizes the IHS energy technical information allowing you to view, understand, and query data by geography. You can review information covering customized locations, research and analysis, country risk (for example, intelligence events, terrorist targets), energy (for example, pipelines, basins) and economic trends. For more information about the map, see Working with the Map.
• My Connect provides access to My Saved, which contains items you save for your own reference, such as documents, scenarios, data series, charts, tool queries, custom dashboards, and more. My Connect also displays tabs for My Regions, My Locations, My Series Uploads, Service Alerts, and Email Settings. For more information about My Connect, see , How to save research , and Report Builder.

IHS Connect is fully compatible with the following browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer, versions 9.0 and above, Firefox, versions 10 and above, Google Chrome, versions 13 and above, and Safari 5. However, for the optimal IHS Connect experience, we recommend that you use a newer version of Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari.

Designing a dashboard versus viewing pre-defined pages

You have the option of using the Dashboard tool to create your own collection and organization of research modules in the layout you prefer, or you can find valuable information in pre-defined pages that are relevant and current on specific topics.

The Dashboard tab appears on the right of the Menu Bar.

Pre-defined pages are organized in a layout by IHS Connect to present current and relevant information on specific topics for your quick access.

The Home page provides the latest on global trends and is the starting point for your IHS Connect navigation. You can view an Announcement, Latest Research, Featured Research, Expert Analysis, Headline Analysis, Hot Topics, and a My Saved section.

Saving documents

Display an Editor's Abstract, Save to My Connect, and / or Share an article with a colleague by selecting one of the icons below the article. Clicking the Save icon sends the article to My Connect and allows you to keep it in your own personal list of project folders.

When you click the icon, a dialog box is displayed with links to the project already on your My Saved page. Select a project and click the link to save your article. If you want to create a new project folder, enter the name in the New project name field, and then click Create. The document will be saved to the newly created folder.

In the following example, the Save to My Connect dialog box lists the name of the article and displays a Folder field and drop down. When you click Apply, the article is saved to the folder listed. In this case, the article is saved to "Read Later" on My Connect.

To create a new folder on My Connect, click the drop-down arrow, enter a New folder name, and then click Create.

Viewing abstracts

Throughout IHS Connect, when you want to read an Editor's Abstract for an article, select the Abstract (book) icon.

When you click the icon, IHS Connect displays an Editor's Abstract.

To display the full article, click the title.

Tools

Numerous tools are available throughout IHS Connect with navigation links on the domain megamenus, content pages, and in charts and tables. Learn more about all the available tools in the online help under Tools.

• Assets on the Market provides access to individual market opportunities benchmarked against commodity prices and featuring key marketplace valuations for all global regions.
• Charts—Edit, save, export, and print charts when you click a link under the Menu Bar icon on charts.
• Chemical Owner Lookup allows you to do a company search for lists of shareholders and subsidiaries for a company with percentages and charts to illustrate ownership.
• Company Coverage and Company Profile allow you to gather information and insight about companies, private and public, involved in transactions and trends in the energy industry.
• Cost Analyzer gives you the ability to review cost and price data from the IHS Pricing & Purchasing Service (PnP) and Chemical. The flexibility of the tool allows you to analyze prices, identify underlying costs, build cost models, and see how costs and prices will change up to 10 years into the future. Identify cost savings when procuring equipment, commodities, materials, chemicals, machinery, electronics, and much more with an agile interface that is flexible and easy-to-use.
• Company Metrics in Connect provides a flexible query-building tool that includes specific line items—over 1,100—companies, regions, time frequencies, and currencies to evaluate company valuation, financial data, reserves, production, and cost trend analysis for public energy companies.
• Dashboard allows you to customize your research page for the countries and organizations you want to focus on, and you can save your customized dashboard to My Connect.
• Data Browser allows you to search and view data series from the datasets you are entitled to. The series you select can be saved, exported, or charted. The chart can be customized using Chart Editor and exported to Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint as a native object.
• Global Projects allows direct access to over 8,000 global energy projects, allowing quick analysis of new source production information and insight.
• Global Refineries allows Refining and Product Market customers to quickly access and analyze worldwide refinery capacity, historically and at individual refineries. You can search for a refinery by name or keyword, do an advanced search, save searches for future reference, and export data.
• Headline Analysis
• Location Analytics allows you to conduct risk analysis of a portfolio of locations previously uploaded to Connect using My Locations on My Connect or Search. Once you identify asset locations and save the location groups, Location Analytics provides the context to analyze and compare violent risk conditions.
• Process Economics Program finds the detailed cost structure for 1,400 chemical processes. A Chemical: PEP Yearbook subscription is required to use this tool and view PEPs reports and reviews.
• Risks and Ratings provides direct access to IHS analysis for Country Risk, E&P Ratings and Rankings, Banking Risk, and Sovereign Risk.
• Transaction Analysis provides access to individual deal analysis on more than 30,000 energy industry transactions over the past 20 years benchmarked against commodity prices and featuring key M&A marketplace valuations for all global regions.
